Darwin Mission | Special Mass Reinstates Cancelled Prison Ministry

Fr Dan Benedetti MGL (left) and his Prison Ministry team have regained access to Darwin prisons.

Due to the cancellation of church services in the Darwin adult prison, Fr Dan Benedetti MGL requested a special Mass to intercede for this wonderful ministry.

The Minister for Corrections and heads of the adult prison were at the Mass as well as ABC TV.

The Jubilee Mass was an opportunity for Bishop Charles Gauci together with many people including the prison ministry teams to pray for prisoners, their families, the victims of crime and the whole justice system; and to highlight the lack of church services that had been run since November last year due to overcrowding and short staffing.

Fr Dan was able to preach on the scripture, ‘I was in prison and you visited me’, sharing about many experiences of how prisoners have benefitted greatly from the church services and Masses held in prison and how many families had been touched by this ministry as well.

Bishop Charles and Fr Dan secured a meeting with the Prison officials and were assured service would return immediately in time for Easter.

Praise God all the Easter services went ahead and the team is back on track.
