Dear Friends in Christ

How wonderful to have a new Pope, Pope Leo XIV who was such a pleasant surprise to most of us.

While the world press was full of speculation, the Holy Spirit was at work. The Cardinals in the conclave experienced a very spiritual retreat-like atmosphere as they discerned the anointing of the Spirit falling upon Cardinal Robert Prevost, a relatively unknown figure.

Yet how wonderful that he is so well-equipped for the task with all his missionary experience in South America, his familiarity with the Roman Curia, his friendship with Pope Francis, and his love for the poor and marginalised. Not to mention his multi-lingual ability, international experience and leadership qualities, having spent two periods as Prior General of the Augustinians.

Let’s keep Pope Leo XIV in our prayers as he takes up this onerous task.

Let’s also take hold of the grace of this time to renew our love for Jesus, our Saviour, and allow him to inflame our hearts to bring the good news of God’s love to all whom we meet.
