Life in the Sydney Mission is off to a flying start for 2025. Having farewelled Fr Tony, we welcomed Deacon Michael Last to the mission. Fr Brian has stepped into a bigger role at Our Lady of Fatima in Peakhurst, and has been very warmly welcomed by the parishioners. Alpha and The Search have recommenced for the year, with over 150 guests, including half of the Alpha guests being under 30!
Fr Vijay has continued his strong pastoral ministry, visiting and celebrating Masses across the Nursing Homes in the parishes. Fr Josh has continued his role as the ‘pastoral presence’ at St Joseph’s in Oatley, which continues to grow and thrive. He has also continued his coordination of Catholic youth and young adults’ ministry in Sydney with a big start to 2025. Over 20 young people attended Summer School from the parishes, 19 young adults were trained and commissioned as youth leaders in the parishes, as well as 40 participants regularly attending the weekly ‘Youth Nights’ youth ministry, and over 50 young adults attending the first ‘Ascension Nights’ of the year. Fr Chris has continued in his strong leadership both across the parishes and with the Areté Centre, which has another strong cohort and is well underway for the year.
As we look towards Easter, we have over 20 candidates and catechumens preparing to enter the Church this year. We’re so excited for all that God is doing here in Sydney in this Year of Jubilee!
